A Sketching on Chen's pancreaticojejunostomy technique

1

Upon the kind invitation of Prof Xiao-qing Jiang, A cademician of the Chinese Academy of Science,Prof Xiao-ping Chen, paid a visit to De partment of Biliary Surgery, theEastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, and performed a pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) with his innovativepancreaticojejunostomy technique  on October 12, 2018.

Chen's pancreaticojejunostomy technique was originally established by Prof Xiao-ping Chen.I  heard of ittwice in academic conferences before, but this time standing next to him in theoperating theater made me perfectly  understand thedetails of this technique. It took less than 10 minutes to finish pancreaticojejunostomy , and the excision of the specimen only took 70minutes.

It is indeed an excellent technique for PD , and Prof Chen spares no effort to promote its applicationaround the nation. The patient was very lucky to have two masters, Prof Chen and Prof Jiang, jointly performing the major operation for him . Two professors had a heated discussion during and after the operation.

Afterwards,Prof Jiang detailedly reported  to Prof Chen on his work. The concepts of "plannedhepatectomy" and "the fourth porta hepatis" proposed by Prof Jiang were highly recognized by Prof Chen.

Prof Jiang vividly described that the first and the second porta hepatises are just like one gate-in and another gate-out, and on the opposite, the third and the  fourth porta hepatises are just like one gate-out and another gate in, which happens to perfectly conform to the cultural and psychological ideas of Chinese people who favor to pursue symmetry inaesthetics.

A sketching on Chen’s pancreaticojejunostomy technique

After the surgery, I had drawn this sketch. Due to my limited ability , it may not be able to exactly indicate the subtlety of this technique. But I will follow thedevelopment and application of this wonderful technique , and make necessary revisions accordingly.
